Richard Dennis, M.D. was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and grew up in Glen Ellyn IL. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from DePauw University in Indiana, and received his Medical Degree from the University of Illinois. He completed an internship and ophthalmology residency at the Valley Medical Center in Fresno, California. Dr. Dennis subsequently completed a fellowship in cornea-external diseases at the Francis I. Proctor Foundation, University of California at San Francisco Medical Center. He served as a flight surgeon for the U.S. Air Force at March Air Force Base in Riverside, California.
Dr. Dennis then joined the faculty at Rush-Presbyterian St. Luke's Medical Center, and became director of the Cornea Service. He was also director of the residency program from 1983-1984. He is an Assistant Professor and Senior Attending Physician in the Department of Ophthalmology and he has been in practice since 1977.
Richard Dennis, M.D. is a member of the Chicago Ophthalmological Society (Councilor, 1990-91), American Medical Association, Illinois State and Chicago Medical Societies, Illinois Association of Ophthalmology, Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology, Eye Bank Association of America, and Sjogren's Syndrome Foundation.
Dr. Dennis' special interests include refractive and laser corneal surgery, ocular immunology, Herpes Simplex ocular disease, cataract surgery, and the complications of intraocular lens implants. He lectures frequently on many of these topics.
Dr. Dennis was named by Chicago magazine as one of chicago's "Top Doctors" in the 2003 and 2004 editions.
